Rio Rio Rio
well… I came from São Paulo, actually the best city for clubing in Latin America _there you can find some clubs listed on DJMag_, also is the biggest city and financial center of South America. By now I’m living in Rio de Janeiro and for most is the best, well known, city from Brazil. Clubing is not the best thing to do in Rio, mainly because there are few clubs where you’re able to listen to good tunes… sure we have a lot of good djs here, some are doing gigs outside Brazil and producing their own records. Rio is well known for day activities, like going to the beaches, the nature beauty likes the Sugar Bread, Corcovado, Tijuca Forest, Guanabara Bay, Lagoa… and I don’t understand why this city doesn’t have day clubs, beach parties more often.
Rio has the natural strenght for being the Brazil’s Ibiza, with tourists all over the year from every part of the world. Clubing here isnt cheap for many of brazilian clubbers… it’s weird.. you go to a small, lounge club, and pay the same or much more than Pachá Sao Paulo… just talking about mainstream clubs. The underground scene is less expensive, don’t expect to find the same structure of underground clubs from Sao Paulo but expect to listen to nice deejays
For those wanting underground clubbing try Fosfobox or Vertigo Lounge in Copacabana, Dama de Ferro in Ipanema. For mainstream: Lounge 69 in Ipanema, The Week International at downtown (fridays for straights and labels, specials parties and saturdays for the gay label party Cosmopolitan - it’s the best and biggest club in the city), Galeria Café at Ipanema and 00 Lounge at Gávea. All of them have specific nights for all kind of clubbers and music genres, some opens monday-to-monday… don’t expect samba LOL if you want samba visit the City of Samba at the Port, other brazilian music genres or latin and wide variety of sounds visit the old district of Lapa or Santa Tereza.
Now you know a little bit of Clubbing in Rio.
At last, the 1st 2009 Podcast. the tunes had been chosen while I was in a country house at Teresopolis for the new year’s eve. Begins smooth and ends totally uplifting. Pay attention for the Patrick Cowley tune, one of the best italo-synth-disco made in the 80’s. Patrick was a great producer, well known in the 80’s club scene. He died with Aids and help spread the fight against Aids in the Reagan’s Era. Clubbing is also safe sex, don’t do drugs too much (or just dont do, you can party too) and take care of yourself.
Let these sounds fall into your mind! Paaaaaarty and send your comments
